It is mainly used for compatibility with non-color-managed displays and printing. You probably won't notice the difference with color-managed displays.

Jun 22, 2005 · I went to Rite Aid this morning and printed 2 4x6 photos. They were JPG files in sRGB color space. I compared both to 8x10 prints I made on a Canon i960 using Photo Paper PRO. In both cases mine were sharper and clearer. At Rite Aid, I made no attempt to crop or correct anything from the original files. They were alreadt processed in Photoshop CS.

Aug 24, 2006 · Adobe RGB is probably the best color space for you at this time. sRGB has a smaller gamut, and will clip colors whereas Adobe RGB is a little larger than your monitor and home printers. The wider the gamut, the larger the steps between levels, which can lead to posterization in facial tones.
